It was 7 years ago today that I had the honor and privilege of shooting Amanda and Alex’s engagement photos at another gorgeous farmhouse in Floyd, VA. They grew up in the same small town and are just one of those couples you know was meant to be. Their love is so evident and I’m thankful I was those one chosen to capture this next monumental phase in their lives.
If you don’t know, I’m an only child and Amanda is my first cousin but has always been my sister in my heart. She was the one I had all my petty fights with, too many pinches and scratches to count (I was the violent one!), but she’s stuck by me through my bossy and mean phase, and been one of the sweetest gifts of my life.
What you can’t see in these photos is that Amanda is a type 1 diabetic. Diagnosed at the age of 10, her insulin pump is strategically hidden because she wanted to be seen as more than a diabetic. She has defied the odds her whole life. A fighter at her core, determined to beat anything she’s up against. Amanda is an incredible sister, daughter, wife, friend and now soon to be mother.
My whole life I have worried about this phase of life when Amanda would become pregnant one day. What will it do to her body? Will God make her strong enough to carry a baby? Well, He has and she’s doing incredible. I’d be lying if I said I won’t be a nervous wreck the next 9 weeks of her pregnancy but instead of being overwhelmed by my anxiety, I’m believing for miracles. The God of the Universe loves her and has given her this gift. I believe in the power of prayer and if we ALL keep Amanda in our prayers He will deliver her safely through the rest of this journey.
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid for the Lord your God goes with you. -Deuteronomy 31:6
He has seen every day of our life. He knows our battles, our greatest joys and weaknesses. He’s ready for us to lay our burdens on the cross so He can be the one to carry us through.
Dear Jesus, be with Amanda in her journey. Keep her body physically strong and put the best doctors around her to ensure a healthy delivery. Thank for the incredible blessing of Baby Beckham. We are expectant of your miracles and do not take them for granted for any second of the day. You are our good, good, Father. Amen.
To Him be all the Glory,
